The purpose of these events is to stimulate debates over the principal themes in vogue at present and to discuss their implications in the formulation and implementation of public policy in Brazil and around the world.

Seminars that have been presented

August 22nd, 2008: International Seminar, Brazil's Growth Diagnosis, with professor Ricardo Hausmann, of Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

• Prof. Hausmann presented an original paper (In search of the chains that hold Brazil back) diagnosing Brazil’s present economic situation, and debated his findings with a panel of politicians, journalists, and academics.
• Prof. Hausmann achieved recognition for his work diagnosing the economic status of nations. He developed a model which permits one to identify the principal obstacle that stands in the way of a nation’s rapid and sustainable growth. By focusing on the principal problem that strangles economic growth, Hausmann believes that the government should concentrate its forces on promoting reform in the sector that was diagnosed, and thereby bring great benefit to the nation.
